'Orbeez' Challenge: Mass Kids Could Be Charged For Dangerous Internet Trend

Police in one Boston suburb are heeding a warning to children and teenagers who take part in a dangerous internet trend involving toy guns and pellets.

Canton Police has received multiple reports over the past few weeks about juveniles using gel ball blasters, otherwise known as "orbeez guns," in town, the department said on Facebook.

The use of the guns is part of a popular social media challenge where kids fire the guns at one another. The blasters look very similar to an actual weapon and some teenagers are now freezing the balls, which can inflict severe pain on others.

"The possession of these items is strictly prohibited on all Town of Canton property," Canton Police said. "Discharge of these 'orbeez guns' is not only strongly discouraged, but could potentially lead to criminal charges."

This was a reality for three children in Auburn who were each charged with nine counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for allegedly firing the gel balls at several middle school students in January, as previously reported by Daily Voice.

Canton Police are also asking parents to discuss the use of the guns with their children and the impact they could have on themselves and others.
